GM original Side Exhaust Covers ?

Please see the link to a post below for those that may be able to answer my N14 Side Exhaust cover questions. Sorry for the duplicate but it's buried deep in there and we got a little sidetracked.

In it I forgot to ASK opinions if you think they are "Original" GM covers or not. (I cannot edit the post as it went edit unfriendly)

    Thanks....Rich

    Rich,

There is no doubt that these covers are original! Problem now is seperating the repos by Eklers from originals since they are made by the same company. Repos were not being made in 73 as GM was still selling them across the counter.
Repos now have fiberglass insulators made by Sermersheim's and can be spotted from 50 paces!

Joe, Thanks for confirming them as original and the Eckler's info. I never knew anything detailed about these until now.

One other question. Do you think the rivets for the brackets are original. There's some bonding adhesive over them on one side. Here's a better close-up. Interesting peen pattern.

Here is a GM NOS set a fellow member just emailed me. He bought them in 1988 but no dates or Rockwell labels. Unfortunately he doesn't have the original GM boxes they came in, which may have had date stamps on the flaps for a clue.

p.s. I missed you at Carlisle again. If you come to Lakeland this January we need to plan a greeting. I'll be volunteering again to help Tyler and the gang.

Joe a buddy just sent me this link. Looks like the Eckler's flavor. Gray glass. I think it even has the Eckler's part# label is on the box. That's a old # but the A means made in-house IIRC.

          Rich,

Cannot confirm anything on the Rivets as the side pipes covers that I ordered thru the years did not have the brackets riveted or screwed to the covers. Never owned an original side pipe C-2.

            Thanks JR,

I'm thinking, as noticed by my friend, that because the bonding adhesive is over the rivet heads, that the brackets were put on at assembly. Here are the other end brackets near the tips. I think based on the weld-nut attachment method, it's consistent with bumper weld-nuts and other original type methods.

But these are separate parts that were likely on the car or bought OTC in '73 along with the covers.

            All speculation of course.
