    Ignition shielding on C1

Trying to install the ignition shielding on my '62.
The top cap doesn't want to fit right.
It appears as if the second window on the back of the distributor cap is causing the problem.
Are the top caps all the same or is there a different one for my dual point distributor?

    David,

i dont recall call the point windows being in the back of the distributor. They should both be in the front, one on each side. Either the cap needs to be turned or the distributor is not installed correctly.

Try to post a photo, it would be easier for us to help.

OK, pictures. You may be correct. If the cap was turned 45 degrees, the shielding would probably fit.

Yes, the cap needs to be turned. If the pins are in the wrong place relative to the distributor after turning, then the distributor is not installed correctly.

Just pull back on the shield where it hits the window and it will slip down.

Carbureted 62 shields are all alike. The distributor cap will only fit on the distributor one way--the tang on the cap fits in the notch on the distributor body. The distributor tach drive needs to line up with the hole in the firewall and the incoming tach cable. Alignment of the shielding top is dependent on the orientation and alignment of the brackets on either side. As Bruce suggested, tug, bend, push, rotate, etc. until it clears the air cleaner on the front and the window on the back.

The cap is keyed to a notch in the distributor as Mike stated.
You can not turn it 180 degrees, actually you can't turn it at all without turning the distributor therefore messing up the timing.

the notche location in the dist. base looks correct...screw latches on the cap are 180 deg apart and can be turned....wires would have to be moved for timing
