Converting to full time vacuum advance

In previous threads, Duke and others suggested going to full time vacuum advance and I ordered the Airtex B28 equivalent that Duke thoughtfully provided (thank you again) and it should be here today or Monday. The car is a 1972 LT-1 with fully functioning TCS, neutered AIR, and all other components working as advertised. Other than routing full time vacuum from the carb are there any other changes to timing or other adjustments that will need to be done to maximize the full potential of the new vacuum advance?

    Thank you,

    Gary

You might have to do something with the TCS, but I don't have a schematic, so I can't give any specifics. I think Jim Trekell has done the conversion and may be able to help out.

Get my 2012 San Diego National Convention presentation. The link has been posted here many times, or you easily find it with a Google search. Follow the instructions for setting setting up the centrifugal advance and set the initial timing to achieve 38-40 degrees total WOT advance.

The AMA specs say max centrifugal is 22 @ 2300, but I wonder if that might be an error. Check against the CSM, and of course, you should measure it with a dial back timing light to ensure you have an accurate baseline to work from. If it is correct and measures as such on your engine, then all you have to do is set that initial at 16-18.

Links to presentations didn't work for me in the past, but today I found this thread with links to Duke's and others' presentations that are presently working.

        Duke,
I should have stated that, yes, the TCS needs to be disconnected. It is easy enough by unplugging the solenoid and capping off the vacuum hose.

        Mark & Duke,
I found the San Diego presentation when I searched here before posting my question. I am still digesting that information and will use it to good effect.

        Thank you both,
        Gary
