    How many judging points will I lose with this windshield coding on my '61?

    This is the logo/lettering and date coding on a replacement clear windshield that I was sent by a vendor. With a magnifying glass it appears to be an "NL" date code (it's very small) which could be correct for my '61 since that's January 1961 and my car is a late March car.

    How many judging points will I lose? Are there vendors that have a zero point deduction replacement windshield?

    John, I think it's a good logo. You may not loose any points, albeit maybe a "dot" as it's a reproduction. Is there a DOT mark on it?

      This is it for what's in the glass - no DOT but there is the "LAMINATED" and small lettering to the left. It doesn't match the TIM&JG exactly since that has on line 1 "SAFETY LOF PLATE" and the date code underneath and the date code is larger. And there isn't any "LAMINATED".

      The is also a flaw on the other end of the glass which isn't apparently fixable.

        Just a reminder, glass doesn't follow the normal rules for deductions (CDCIF). Glass falla under a standard deduction. You can find the standard deduction in the JFM.

          Please bear with me as I'm still working on understanding the finer points of judging. So does this mean I lose 30%?

            John,

            Since glass falls under a standard deduct, judges need to consult the standard deduct chart which I have paraphrased below:

            1. OEM as described in TIMJG, dated within 12 months prior to vehicle assembly - no deduct.
            2. As above except date - deduct 20%.
            3. OEM brand, later service replacement style with correct tinting if applicable - deduct 30%.
            4. OEM brand with incorrectly configured tinting - deduct 50%.
            5. Non OEM brand, 53-62 tinting, or any year added tinting (film) - deduct 90%.

            Given you have a configuration normally found on later 1962 (December 61 dated glass) cars, I think a 30% deduct is the best you can do with this glass. However, I am not an exterior judge.

            If you haven't installed this glass yet, I would suggest speaking with your vendor and trying to obtain the correctly configured glass.

              I do exterior judging on 61 and 62 and do agree with Dennis that is a 62 logo and a 30% is what would be taken.

                Yikes - it is a 1962 date code because of the "LAMINATED". For sure it has to go back.

                  John, I doubt if the laminated glass has anything to do with the date code.
                  In 1979 I bought two of LOF tinted windshields for my 63. Had to as the first one was loaned out to a friend who broke it installing it.
                  Anyhow our windshields should be Safety Plate like in the old days. No one makes that type of glass today. (do they gang?)

                  John, Since you are new at this then you really owe it to yourself to buy the "Judging Standards" It's very helpful in knowledge and on your wallet. The standard deductions table mentioned above is very forgiving as we all know you just can't buy some of these parts that are totally correct today. For example: Tires, headlights, batteries, glass, etc.
                  You will really like the book. Buy it here from the NCRS store.
                  As far as the glass goes you should be able to at least buy a repro glass that is dated correctly for your car. I never mention vendors here as they are all my friends. John D.

                    This is what I have for resources:
                    1961-1962 5th Edition Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide {the old pink one}
                    1961-1962 6th Edition Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide {the new color one}
                    Internal factory AIM {this has the 8 1/2" x 17" fold out pages}
                    The Complete Corvette Restoration & Technical Guide - Vol. 1 1953 Through 1962 by Noland Adams {which I usually forget to reference}
                    Chassis and Body Parts Catalog Chevrolet Corvette 1953 Thru 1978 {hardly ever helpful}
                    1961 AIM database file upgraded to accdb format {got this from a forum member - helpful in some situations}
                    Corvette Servicing Guide ST-12 {blue cover}
                    1961 Chevrolet Passenger Car Shop Manual (handy for some pictures and techniques}
                    Complete set of 1961 Flight Judging Score Sheets
                    Spreadsheet with 1961 Flight Judging Score Sheets {my own invention}
                    1953 - 1972 Corvette Specifications Guide Special Membership Edition {old and some out-of-date information but easy to read with the big print}
                    1953 - 1972 Corvette Specifications Guide {small pocket-sized which I bring to swap meets}

                    But in looking at the NCRS website I realize I don't have either the Judging Reference Manual or the Operations and PV Guide. I'll get these. Anything other resource material you can think of that would make my restoration go better?
