Re: 1965 gas tank
No my knowledge tank isn't judged as it can't be seen. I suggest it's not worth the additional $$$ for the Anderson logo tank, here again because it can't be seen largely due to spare tire bucket. The Spectra Industries tank has the same physical characteristics of the original tank.- Top

Re: 1965 gas tank
Hi Bill, I would bye a Quanta tank. They look the best and are priced accordingly. No judges have ever deducted as my car has been through the different levels.... Good luckEnzo Colosimo

Re: 1965 gas tank
Don't fool yourself presence of the tank embossed label can be verified with a flash light an/or mirror between the tire cover and the bottom of the tank. But an easier thing for judges to verify/pick on is the tank sender unit, upper clamp, fuel line cloth sleeve, vent hose, plastic strap, and spring.- Top

Re: 1965 gas tank
Bill do you need an original tank from a '65 396 convertible? There might be one in the corner of a friend of mine's basement.
If you do install a new Quanta tank pay attention to the bends or folds on the new tank seams where the hold down straps ride. Be sure that the new tank folds match the original tank and use the original tank straps. Why I am saying this is because getting the tank filler neck to be centered properly in the body opening can sometimes be a tricky especially after the body is on the car. I put a new Quanta tank in the '65 396 I restored and we had to do some creative tweaking of the new tank seam folds to get things lined up to my satisfaction. The problem isn't left to right but front to back alignment.
Just my 2 cents.
Best Regards, and keep those progress pictures coming!
