    1951567 Starter Lever Assembly Question

I am overhauling the 1107320 starter on my 67 300hp car and the new lever (1951567) can install either way. There is a cutout in the lever stamping near the through pin hole and if turned 180* I think it places the lever throw differently.

Can someone post a picture or describe the correct orientation of the lever. The 1963 shop manual is vague here except to say if pinion clearance is more than .140 the lever pins are wore or incorrect assembly of the lever. I replaced the lever with a NOS part because the pins are wore and engaged the starter and the pinion clearance looks like a good .125 or so but with all new parts I would think it would be tighter so I am questioning the lever installation.

    Thanks for the help, Tim

The "cutout" side of the lever should be oriented towards the REAR of the starter.

      Joe,

I can't thank you enough, by rear of the starter do you mean the commutator end where the brushes are.

Yes. In other words, not the end with the cast iron nose; the other end.

          Tim,

I have been trying to contact you for three weeks. I left a Private message with a pop up telling you that you had a private message. Your email address is bouncing emails. Your phone number returns disconnected. I understand that you have moved.

A requirement of using this forum is having a working email address.

You can go to Change Your Adddress, Email, Phone to update your contact information online. It is easy and will only take a minute or two.

If I continue to get bounced emails I will shut off your access to the Technical Discussion Board.

I don't normally post these messages in the forum but your lack of response to the private message has forced me to take other action.
