C3 Wiper ndoor closes on wipers before they are parked

My wiper door closes on the wipers before they are parked. How do you fix that? Thanks, Dan

      Terry

Thank you for directing me to this thread. However what I am experiencing is a little different. Actually, I don't have any vacuum problems. For example, when I slide the wiper switch on...the door opens and the wipers activate...both speeds good. When I slide the switch "off"...the wipers start to "park", and the door starts to close...but the door catches the tips of the wiper blades. What I've been doing is...I open the door first with the over ride switch and then turn on the wiper blades. When I want them to stop...I use the slide control to "park" the blades and then close the door with the over ride switch. Goofy, I know. What I'm looking for is either a way to adjust the door to close slower...or to make the blades "park" faster.

      Thanks again, Dan

That same part that broke in the thread I linked to is the part that tells the door the wipers are fully retracted. It is adjustable. I suspect there may be adjustment instructions in the AIM, or the Chassis Service Manual, but the adjustment slots should be obvious if you look at where it mounts.

Dan, Terry is correct the vacuum switch is what tells the door to close, however the pass side blade hit the button on the switch a little early, there is a slotted adjustment on the wiper arms that you may need to play around with. try the drivers first If I remember the drivers side is the one that gets caught up on the door.

68's do not have the switch. If the OP has a 68 the problem is somewhere else. The adjustment slots are on the bracket, not the valve. You must remove the valve and move the captured nuts on the bracket for adjustment. It would be wise to test the valve with a myti-vac while it is off and examine it for cracks in the plastic. I'll post a picture of the Willcox US-made valve when I get it. Beware, Willcox sells both the cheap Chinese valve and the US-made valve ($55), and it takes some searching in their clunky web site to find both choices.
