    71 emissions canister

Anyone have a link on how to restore, rebuild the canister on my 71? Ya know the one mounted low in the rear area of the left front fender.
    Thanks Thad

    Hi Thad,
The canister is unpainted black plastic so depending on it's condition can be cleaned well or if needed spayed with a little #1613 to improve it's appearance.
The 'pancake' filter in it's bottom which can be accessed when the bottom lid is removed and is easy to replace.
The charcoal in the canister can be replaced but only by cutting the canister apart (decapitating it). Does yours require that?
The bracket that mounts the canister to the left apron was semi-flat black but I found to be on the shiny side due to it being painted by being dip painted.
    Regards,
    Alan

If you decide you want to replace the charcoal I can send you a link to that process that someone from Australia posted on another forum.

The top of the canister from my 71 has what I believe might be a Julian date stamped in it. I'd be interested to know if yours has a stamp, what it is, and when your car was assembled.

Very easy and inexpensive. GM #7026014, aka Delco A478C. About 2 bucks. Also available from other major filter manufacturers like Fram, Purolator, etc.
