66 windshield trim install???? Wrong gasket?

Just painted my 66, installed new windshield, new rubber from paragon #4272, reused original clips from car. Now I can not get the bottom stainless to snap in, been hitting it hard with a rubber mallet no good results.
I have found from my nos parts stash gm #3904931, windshield clips. They look different, like a redesign, is this my problem or do I have the wrong repo gasket?
I have read many post's on this, what is the newest solution, or is there any? My plan is to remove the w-shield again, examine the clips and order new gaskets from multiple suppliers to examine?

I don't think you need to go to the extreme of removing the w/s. Have you made sure the w/s stainless is getting down in on the correct side of the clip? Are you using the original clips? If all else fails, I would try removing some of the w/s gasket material to mallow the trim to go farther into the clip.

      William,

Order 11044K-11 from Paragon along with 119K-11 screws. These are made in the USA and are the only clips that I have ever had any success with installing the lower stainless WS.

I have struggled with the C2 windshields also. I believe the aftermarket weatherstrips are a bit fatter than the originals. So when you try to put the moulding on, the upper edge of the moulding hits the weatherstrip and tilts it a bit and it won't hook into the clip.

I have heard of people grinding the inner part of the weatherstrip down a bit but have never tried that.

You don't say if this is a coupe of roadster but you might try pulling the windshield back out, installing the lower moldings first, then when you install the windshield, start the windshield and weatherstrip into the frame above the moulding and slide it down into position. Needless to say use plenty of soapy water for lube.

          I have a 66 conv.
Spoke to "Corvette Rubber Co" today, receptionist switched me to a Mike, he stated they are not aware of anyone having trouble with there gasket for 63- 67 corvettes, I was surprised and repeated my question, he replied return your problem w-strip and he would send me a new one. Lots of help he was!!
New plan, following Joe Rays, suggestion, ordered new w-strip and paragon USA made clips, hope I have better results.
