I agree Mike, completely....but I was just looking at what the original post was relating to....Was funny (not haha). Regarding your other post, I think that people need to understand this is a hobby, but a very scrutinizing one. That's why we encourage everyone to go to a meet before buying a car or having a car judged. It's an eye-opening experience for sure. Witnessing the judging process will make anyone a better equipped buyer, a better informed owner and reduces the shock factor. I am definitely an NCRS purist like Mark and Dave and many many others. However, having an arbiter at the judging would be disastrous in my opinion. I am an attorney, and all I see is a mediation going on in the middle of the judging field if you had an owner, an impartial arbiter and the judge. This would make the process adversarial. No good can come from this IMO. You will pit the owners against the judges, NTL and NJC. Lines drawn, etc.....
An option may be to require new owners/first time judging applicants to attend an official owners meeting, as opposed to the 5 minute owners meeting we do now. This way they can be advised as to what to expect, be fully informed as to what channels are available to them should they question a call, etc....May reduce some of the "unknown" with the judging process as well. Could do it the morning of judging, could be the night before, etc....Just a suggestion.....ARA

Also, note my comments related to having an arbiter, and not a mentor. Not sure if feasible to do it, but different than having an impartial arbiter to come to an amicable resolution of an issue.

Perhaps, the mentor could stand with the owner, and be afforded the opportunity to offer guidance during the debrief.

Perhaps it would alleviate some anxiety on both sides if the clipboard.
              Great idea Donnally.
Where does the junkman signup to have Donnally mentor? I'd be bringing out a 63, so I'd like to keep as calm as possible?
I hope you'll be wearing that sporty bus uniform with the gold stuff on the shoulders and cap.
Wouldn't want the judges to intimidate us wearing their fancy caps with gold.
Thanks for the offer, Bob J

The OP is not a new member, nor did he make any mention of having this, or any car judged.

The "club" I was referring to was not just NCRS, but the '67 L71 owner's club in general.

I see your points ARA, and this could work too, just needs to be a more welcoming avenue for owners to feel like they have some voice in things and are not completely powerless.

                      Re: 67/435

Well, this is quite a thread.

Dave S asked about current NCRS position on a judge using his/her judging experience and/or judging assignment to create some sort of financial gain for himself/herself...simple answer: will not be tolerated; no change from the policy when Roy was NJC.

Several people chimed in on NCRS "higher ups" representing members and educating new members. Before every regional and national judging event, I hold a brief owners' meeting, where I explain how the judging process works and how the dispute resolution process works. In addition, our Judging Reference Manual has a section in it called "Owners Advisory;" many chapters routinely send this advisory to members with cars registered for judging. If you approach me or a Team Leader for clarification or question on a judging decision, your question will be addressed professionally and politely. If the judge made an error, it will be corrected. As I like to say at our judging schools, our objective is to get it right, and if we got it wrong, we will try to correct our error.

                      Dave

Sounds like party of the hobby I wouldn't want to be associated with.

In answer to the original question, the NCRS 53-67 Corvette Specification Guide is the best place to start. Like any Corvette purchase you need to make sure the VIN number and the trim tag make sense together. Examine the engine component casting numbers, dates and stampings including the distributor band and the alternator, same with the transmission and rear end. A rear end with a small block code and a production date in line with the car build date would introduce serious questions. Find out about the proper location and routes of TI ignition wiring and components because that better be right for an original L-71. Check for the right radiator, rad support and sway bars sizes. Check the code label on the back of the gage cluster. These things would constitute a basic laugh test of originality.
