    C1 Trunk Mat Repair

The original trunk mat in my 1962 is still supple. But it's got tears at the corners. Every time I take it in or out of the car, the tears get a little longer. I realize it can't be fixed. But I'd like to keep this original, rather than throwing it away and buying a repro.

Anybody have any luck with a product or a repair to stop the tears from getting longer? Duct tape didn't work for me.

I have the same issue with my '62. The black trunk mat in it isn't correct for my Fawn Beige car, but it's a good mat and sufficient for my purposes so I want to keep using it for now. I had a sheet of adhesive-backed rubber matting (I think it was for sound deadening for stereo speakers) and I simply cut pieces to bridge the tears, plus a little extra. It's thin enough not to cause a bulge, thick enough to fix the tears, and flexible enough to stay where I put it. Don't have a name brand or source, but a quick internet search ought to turn up what I'm talking about. Mine was in about an eight-inch width on a metal spool. Worked for me. Good luck!

Last year at the Winter Regional in Lakeland, several of us bought a special adhesive from a vendor.

The vendor was giving demos, and the guys that told me about it said one demo was to join 2 pieces of rubber hose at the ends. After it was repaired with this adhesive, the hose could NOT be pulled apart at the joints. I went later and bought some but haven't tried it on anything yet.

This may be a method to fix those tears. My '59 has a torn mat also. Next time I clean out the trunk I should try it out. I have it somewhere and I'll get the package out for you to locate some.
