    Generic mid year carburetor question

Do all the mid year carbs have the two letter suffix stamped after the part number? Is it required to be considered"correct"

    thanks

Yes along with a three digit date stamp for Holley carbs.

Not sure about ALL. 1964 and 1965 small block Holleys have the part # 3849804 without suffix letters. I have two '65 List 3124 (396) w/service dates (1966 and 1968) and IIRC, they both have a suffix "CS". Also, have original late 400hp '69 set-up and the carbs have the 2-letter suffixes after the part #

The 1965 5th ed. TIM&JG doesn't mention the letters, so maybe they started later.

Thanks for your replies guys, and for listing your observations Wayne. Sounds like one could have an original carb even if it didn't have that two letter suffix.

Here's a 327/365 carb off an early '64 (3rd week of Nov 1963). The others are big blocks, but service dates (or at least past 1965 production). Two have a "CS" suffix, another doesn't. Needs more investigation.
