    Brake Light Switch

Replaced working brake light switch but was in bad condition. When the transmission is put in reverse the shift lever goes back which will pull the brake light lever back which in theory would cut the back up lights on. Unfortunately the new switch cuts the back up lights on when the switch lever moves forward. The switch is in correctly with switch lever towards the ground as the old switch. I threw the old switch out to inspect which I should have learned not to do. Any Help appreciated.

    Re: Brake Light Switch

First of all, I think you are talking about the backup light switch, not the brake light switch. You are correct in the operation: Placing the gearshift in reverse will pull the reverse arm on the transmission back (counterclockwise). This arm should be pointing "down" from the pivot point (shaft). This will then pull the switch rod back and the arm on the switch will rotate clockwise. When installing the switch the arm should be pointing "up" and the wiring will be exposed (drivers side of switch) There is an adjustment procedure in your AIM for proper switch location in the slots of the bracket.
ASSUME you are talking about a 4spd.......
