    1980 Corvette News Article

Attached is a 1980 Corvette News Article about NCRS.

The local library here in Sonora, California was cleaning out their old books and magazines and just giving them away.

A friend of mine knowing I was involved in Corvettes, saved a couple of pristine copies of Corvette News from 1980 and 1982.

Lo and behold, in reading them I find an article in the Feb/March 1980 issue by John Amgwert about NCRS. "You, too, can be a Corvette Restorer"

So I thought I'd scan it and share it, see the attachment.

    Have fun

Jerry what a great find. I just read the entire article. Great photos too. I wonder if any of the members in the pictures can be identified.

I got a chuckle about the comment about the first Winter Regional, "....1979 the Florida Chapter sponsored a meet at Cypress Gardens........over 125 members from 19 states gathered for this 3 day event..."

Last year in Lakeland I'd say there were probably thousands of members and vendors and visitors combined. We've grown a bit for sure. Tyler and I have conversed lately about the upcoming January event. We've acquired another 15 acres of area at Sun-N-Fun and the event will be expanded even more. There are going to be more car show areas sectioned off for Saturday as several other clubs will be joining in too. A 7 acre area has been allocated for one other special club. If any of you missed our first Lakeland Winter Regional location last year and if you come this year, you'll be amazed at the growth going on already. Quite a change from the first one in 1979.

"mass of ancient fiberglass and iron" - It's interesting to think that the the Corvette enthusiast of 1980 viewed a 13 year old 1967 Corvette as ancient. That's the same thing as saying that a C5 Z06 from 2002 is ancient today. Similarly, the 1967 Corvette today is 48 years old (or 49 year old given that 2016s are being produced and sold). That's the equivalent of a car from 1932 as seen through the eyes of someone in 1980. It's amazing how perceptions can change over time.

Good one Jerry, and let's all remember what Corvettes were like in 1980 or so. My first new Corvette was a 1981 and I thought that was the best car I had ever had, and it was.

My wife DEE still has her 77 she bought new. Maybe......no promise now, we will bring it to NCRS 2017 National in San Antonio. I have owned over 80 Corvettes. She bought a 75 that after discovered it was wrecked , then ordered her new 77 which all these years is her only Corvette.
