    1954 general engine question

    Can a f54yg use hydraulic lifters if someone wanted to and are the pushrods the same. Im just wondering. Thanks

    I think you could but you can't use hydraulic lifters with the original camshaft. You would have to obtain a camshaft designed for hydraulic lifters.

      Yes you can with a new cam
      and yes they are QUIET .........

          Guy - I wrote this article a while back on the differences between the 3835911 block with hydraulic lifters used in passenger car & truck applications and the 3835911 block with solid lifters used in Corvettes. The difference is a 5/8" hole cross drilled from the back of the block through the lifter galley to facilitate oiling of the hydraulic lifters. See photos in the article.

          I would assume you need this cross drilled hole if you were to use hydraulic lifters in a real 3835911 Corvette block.

            Thanks Bill, that makes a big difference, so the moral to the story is that it wont work if I understand it. I was kicking around looking for an A, B ot C block to go with my C head but really didnt want the solid lifters but oh well.
