Guy------
I think you could but you can't use hydraulic lifters with the original camshaft. You would have to obtain a camshaft designed for hydraulic lifters. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

1954CorvetteBlockDifferences.pdf
Guy - I wrote this article a while back on the differences between the 3835911 block with hydraulic lifters used in passenger car & truck applications and the 3835911 block with solid lifters used in Corvettes. The difference is a 5/8" hole cross drilled from the back of the block through the lifter galley to facilitate oiling of the hydraulic lifters. See photos in the article.
I would assume you need this cross drilled hole if you were to use hydraulic lifters in a real 3835911 Corvette block.

Re: 1954 general engine question
Thanks Bill, that makes a big difference, so the moral to the story is that it wont work if I understand it. I was kicking around looking for an A, B ot C block to go with my C head but really didnt want the solid lifters but oh well.- Top
