54 heater/ defroster switch

If I install the switch into the dash and align the slot in the dash with the key way in the switch, the lettering on the switch knob than reads upside down when installed correctly. What am I overlooking ?

Caveat: I know nothing about '54s other than they are made by Chevrolet.

With that said, have you tried to reorient the switch knob so the lettering is right side up?

Thanks for the reply Mark. I have since figured out that the switch is not keyed to the dash but the chrome bezel has a very small protrusion at the bottom that fits into the slot at the bottom of the switch hole in the dash.
