Re: 1976 stingray alarm system - where do i start
It could be as simple as one (or more) of the trigger switches think that a door or the hood is open. Check each individually. The door switches are at the bottom rear of the opening. The hood switch is on the firewall.
If it's not that, suspect a stuck 'flasher' relay in the passenger side rear compartment.- Top

Re: 1976 stingray alarm system - where do i start
Stephen,
You should first find a wiring diagram for the 76, you should be able to find one online. Another excellent source is to get a copy of the AIM (assembly manual) for the 76. It will show you in detail everything and how they are wired, where the buzzers(relays),and switches are located. If the 76 is similar to the 73 the front door jamb switches work the courtesy lights and ignition buzzer. The rear door switches and the hood switch control the alarm and the door ajar dash light. Access to the rear jamb switch wiring can be done by removing the access panel located in the lower front of the rear wheel wells. There is an access panel with 4 small screws, used to get to the #3 body mounts. After removing it you can check to see if the wires are still connected and not rusted away or damaged. The relay(buzzer) for these is located under the Jack storage tray as Edward mentioned above. There is only a very small hole for you to barely get your finger in to check the the rear of the switch. Again , there are differences in switches, wiring and grounds depending on car year. Seatbelt wiring harnesses connect to retractors under the seats and run under the shifter console. You could check making sure they are still plugged in. From my experiences trying to get all mine working correctly, this takes a lot of patience. Previous owners cut many of the wires or they changed wiring, removed bulbs and disconnected switches and replaced seatbelts that have no wiring connections. They didn't care about judging or having things work as they should. They just wanted to quiet the buzzers and turn out the warning lights.
Good Luck and have Fun!!!Jimmy
