And this day is also celebrated in Australia as Remembrance Day as well. No small coincidence. This day was first celebrated as Armistice Day in memory of those that gave their lives for their countries during World War I. The war ended by proclamation of an armistice on the 11th month, the 11th day at the 11th hour. Thus many former ally countries celebrate this day in honor of all that wore the uniform in the defense of their homeland. In the US it was called Armistice Day until 1954 when it was changed to Veteran's Day.

Mike, Thanks for recognizing all of the Veterans on their special day yesterday. Glad to hear that it is celebrated in many other countries. My dad was in the US Army and my mom was in the English Army during WW II. It was always a special day when I was growing up.

If you are blessed enough to be traveling in a foreign country that also served as a battlefield(s) site, be sure to visit the American Memorial Burial grounds in areas that you visit. You will find yourself blessed in an aura of appreciation for lives that were given not for conquest but for freedom.
