    1963 T-10 Lubrication

I have finally found someone in my small town who is willing to work on anything, To whit, we are changing the engine in my nom '63 coupe. Pulled engine & tranny and carelessly let most of the tranny lube drain out on the floor. Since I haven't been able to do much in the shop lately, and my 82 year 'little gray cells' are fewer & fewer I NCRS. So..... Can anyone tell me the correct replacement fluid for a T-10 from a '63??
    TIA, Marty

    Marty,
    You still haunting area 51????
On the trans you may use any 90-110 Transmission fluid but since it is well broken-in I would purchase synthetic from the GM dealer.

SAE 80W-90 GL-5. Brand makes no difference. Just look for the referenced information in the API "donut" - usually on the back of the bottle. Any auto parts store should have this common product in stock.

80W-90 GL-5 is the modern equivalent of the Mil-L-2105 spec oil that was original fill as specified in the owner's manual and shop manual. The mil-spec was canceled at least ten years ago and replaced with the API spec.

Thanx Guys. I can probably find one or the other here in Pahrump. I am planning on driving this car next week! It has a new 350 in it, but the car itself hasn't been driven in 25+ years . I don't know what to expect, but we shall overcome.

Joe, Area 51 is under control. Be very careful what you say about it. or there will be a knock on your door in the middle of the night, and it won't be me.

        Happy Holidays to all

            Marty,

Same stuff but be sure to add at least one bottle of posi trac lube from the GM dealer.

PS. Area 51 is not included in this post!

You can also buy the Positraction additive from NAPA - probably cheaper than a GM dealer - NCB 4285V, 4-0z. bottle.
