    1967 PW head scratcher

Hi guys..Im having a bit of trouble figuring out my PW problem. My 67 was shut down two years ago to be painted. The body shop removed the doors to paint them properly, also, the windows worked fine before the resto. Anyways because the car was powered down to replace the front engine harness the shop powered the windows to dismantle the doors by applying power to the brown wire under the dash heading above the kick panel out to the door. Since reassemby..my passenger side window works perfectly, yet my drivers only goes down and not up. Ive eliminated some the reasons ,Ive applied power to the brown wire (as the shop did before) and the window goes up thus eliminating a faulty motor or problem with the wiring at least from the kick panel through to the motor. Also I dont think its the switch as the courtesy lights slightly dim (as all my PW cars did) when you hold the switch in either the up or down position.None of the wiring had been touched or replaced between the kick panel and the switch either.! Any opinions on how to fix this "gremlin" without ripping the console and dash out etc.... would be really appreciated. I was told that there is a relay maybe in the harness that could be the culprit..I wasnt aware of one...but hey, thats why Im asking you...hopefully someone can help..thank you,Greg

Might be wrong, but I'm thinking the contacts in the switch may have corroded from moisture in the air during the time it was in the body shop, much like the contacts in a horn can from infrequent usage and moisture. You might try taking out the console screws and slightly lift it up while pulling the carpet down to access the wires and check with a double probe test wire to bypass the switch to see if it will operate the window. Hopefully you won't have to remove the passenger seat to do this. Just a suggestion. I have had the corrosion build-up on the switch on my 59 a couple of times since the middle 80s and had a friend dis-assemble it and file the contacts. Worked like new. Good luck!! Al

        Greg:

If you look on page G253 of the 67 AIM it shows the power window wiring hook-up for the doors.

This is a guess but since the window operates in one direction only is there a chance that the wires (at the motor connector) are hooked up backwards?

The diagram for the left (drivers side) shows the number 2 terminal (vertical) connected with the Dark Green wire and the number 1 terminal (horizontal) connected with the black / white-stripe wire. (Different color combination for the right / passenger side.)

It might be worth checking to see if these are connected properly---- just a thought ---

The Note indicates that "----Wiring when properly connected ---- operates the windows etc etc ---"

Also---there are "TWO" black with white stripe wires in the diagram ---- a short one and a long one --- see below ---

        Hope this helps.

        Regards
        Bill

Also Dr. Rebuild wiring schematic is a great tool to have also. It makes wiring a little easier as it shows the terminals and the wires are in color.
