2003 Anniversary Edition Wheels: Valve Stems and Caps

A friend asked this question, and I told him I'd try to find an answer.

He has a nice, low mileage 2003 Anniversary convertible, bought from the original owner.

It has the "champagne" or "goldish colored" factory wheels.

The PO had the tires filled with Nitrogen. When they did this, they replaced the original valve stem caps with green plastic ones, to denote the Nitrogen fill.

What color and material were the original caps for these "gold tone" wheels?

    Were they plastic or metal?

Were they gray, silver, black, "gold", etc. ?

    TIA.

Here is a photo of an 2003 gold hue wheel. 155 miles on this car the stem is metal but the cap maybe gold hue colored plastic.

      Thanks, Paul.

Sorta looks like a gold-ish tint, but could also be silver. Definitely looks like the thin, plastic caps seen on other GM cars of the era..

        Chuck,

That wheel pictured is not the correct wheel for a 50th Anniversary car...but in answer to your question, the caps are silver, and are made of metal.

What is the difference between the wheel pictured and the 50th Anniversary "champagne" wheel?

This pic of the cap was posted over on Corvette Forum.

The center cap is different, the 5 spoke design is different, the outer circumference design of the wheel near the tire is different. The cap pictured is the correct design, by the same manufacturer, the ones on my 50th and the ones on my neighbors are silver.

IF it was ever available in SERVICE, it was/is GM #25731359. This cap, still available from GM, will definitely work but whether it is configured exactly like the original, I do not know.
