1970 Corvette Convertible Frame Pictures - For Reference

    Hi All,

Looking for pictures of an unrestored or NCRS correct restored 1970 Convertible frame. Prefer LT1.

Looking for references and information on how to detail correctly as well as the way you differentiate a 1970 frame from an early or later frame.

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

        Hi David,
I don't think there is any difference between a coupe and convertible frame and running gear.
But since you mention you're interested in a LT-!, that means it WOULD be a 4-speed frame.
I believe early 68 frames will not have the 2 diagonal braces at the kick-up/cross member while later 68 and 69+ frames have the braces. Later 69 and 70+ frames would have 2 drilled holes in the trailing arm pockets for a alignment shim cotter key. A frame WITH the braces but WITHOUT the holes would be an earlier 69 frame.
Would you be willing to look at pictures taken from below with the body in place?
Are you interested in the running gear too or just the frame?
        Regards,
        Alan

Here is one that I have unrestored but of a 1969. A few of other areas of several frames.

            Thanks all.

Alan - I'm interested in any and all I can get my hands on. Must be original though (unrestored or restored correctly).

Paul - Thanks for the pics!

            Best,
            Dave

If you are patient - I have a 70 LT-1 roadster that's heading to the beauty parlor for a makeover late this month or early next.

                Hi David,
There are quite a few chassis photos available of a very low mileage ZR-! taken a few years ago at the Winter Regional and then again at the Convention in Charlotte.
It's a 72 however not a 70 as you specified in your first post.
Might those pictures still be of interest to you?
                Regards,
                Alan

Main interested in how to identify an original 1970 frame. If 70 and 72 are the same then I'm interested!

                  Thanks,
                  Dave

                    Dave------

They were of different part numbers. However, I really think the differences were extremely minor and I doubt there are many folks who would even know the differences. It would probably take a GM drawing of the various 1969-72 frames to find out just what the differences were.

My guess is that you could put an original 1970 and 1972 frame side-by-side and one would have a difficult time discerning the differences.

                      Hi Dave,
If still readable wouldn't the first digit of the sequence number stamped in the frame rail in 2 places indicate what year the frame is?
                      Regards,
                      Alan
