I am doing a frame off of my 1969 convertible. I have not removed the original windshield or trim molding at this time. The end pieces that the top locks into have a few minor pits. Since I have spared no expense on the restoration, I would like to remove these pieces to have them re chromed. After looking at several post and other corvette forum sites it appears that there is a real concern about removing the 2 retaining attaching screws that attach these pieces and cracking the original windshield. The present windshield had no issues with leaking so I was not inclined to remove the windshield. I also understand that there is a real possibility of cracking the windshield when trying to remove it. Now I would like comments on a decision. While I would like to remove all molding and have it re chromed, the possibility of ruining an original windshield does not seek like a good trade off. I would guess that an original windshield with polished chrome trim is worth more points than re chromed trim and a replacement windshield. Any comments, experiences and opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve

Re: 1969 Convertible Windshield Trim Removal Decision
Hi Steve,
Another thing to consider is that the 2 corner pieces each have that small textured area.
I don't know if it's possible to have your originals re-chromed without losing that detail.
Also, at this time I don't know of any source for the damming strip that was used for the original windshield installation. It, or the lack of it, can be seen on the a-pillars when the windshield and trim are back in place.
2 votes for leaving the glass and corner trim pieces in place.
