    62 Wheel Bearings size , need new bearings can find'em

    Hello everyone,
    Can anyone tell me what the correct front inner wheel bearing measurement should be? I don't have a caliper but the bearings on my 62 are 3-1/4 inch across. I ordered replacement bearings from Corvette Central and they sent bearings that are 2-7/8 inches across. I called their customer service and was told they have no problems with the bearings they have been selling and they are all that size. They will refund if I send back. Which I did. Lots of help they were>>> This is very unusual because I replaced one side about 10 years ago and bought the bearings from them. Correct size then and no problems. I also checked with a local parts store and they have a listing for the same smaller bearing. ?? This bearing will not work as the grease deflector which is 3-1/4 inch presses on over it. The grease deflector they sent is the 3-1/4 inch size but will not fit their bearing. Can anyone answer this and do you know where I can get the correct size bearings? Any answers or help is greatly appreciated. Frank

    Are you using original style BALL BEARINGS or retro-fit type TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS?

        Well, maybe. Frankly, I do not understand why those that you got won't work. The Federal-Mogul part numbers for bearings for your application are B-52, inner, and B-67, outer. I would think that these or other brand equivalents would be what you got from Corvette Central.

        In any event, the ORIGINAL inner bearings for your application were GM #909052 and the outer bearings were GM #909067. These were the ORIGINAL part numbers. They are no longer available from GM. However, I find several of each on eBay which are in old Delco or GM boxes. So, if you were to obtain these and they don't work for you, then I don't know what to tell you.

          Rock Auto sells the bearings made by various manufactures as shown on their web site catalog.

          Inner bearings, National B52
          OD = 2.963"
          ID = 1.281"
          W = 1.15"

          Outer bearings, SKF B67
          OD = 2.08"
          ID = 0.7498"
          W = 0.718"

              Hi Joe,
              Thanks for the info. I am going to order a set of the Federal -Mogul bearings. By the way the set from Corvette Central were made in China. Does that tell you something?? The unfortunate thing is the guy I spoke to at c Central customer service could not have been lees helpful. He was arrogant and really didn't believe that they were not correct. He checked others in stock and said they were all the same size and they had no customer complaints about them. Then they hit me for a restocking fee after returning them. I've been buying parts from them for years but never had this type of issue or poor service. Merry Christmas, Frank

                I think you will find that the Federal-Mogul bearings, or about any other brand you can get nowadays, will be made in China, too.

                Many of these bearings for older applications are going to be foreign-sourced these days. That does not necessarily mean they are bad, though.

                If you want a good shot at getting USA-manufactured bearings about the only thing you can do is go with NOS bearings found on eBay and elsewhere.
