67 sb heat shields under exhaust?

Recently I took off the heat shields to refinish them. I bought this Vette new, I am the only owner and don’t remember ever doing anything with the shields in the past. However I want to insure/verify if they are original. The 67 JG doesn’t provide much detail and the AIM only provides part numbers.

Attached is a photo of the refinished shields and screws. They are natural steel (no coating), take a magnet, have no part#, date or other marking dings. They were attached with 2 different screws (shown).

I’m interested in all opinions regarding originality of both the shields and screws.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not seeing the pictures, are you talking about the heat shields under the area near the holes where the exhaust pipes go through the frame?

OK --- I have to ask the obvious question ---

If you bought the car new --- and "NEVER did anything to it" "--- why are you concerned that the parts in question (or any parts for that matter) are original? Are they not by definition correct?

I'm just sayin' .... different fasteners may be correct --- especially if you did nothing ----

        Just my observation...

        Regards
        Bill

Short answer: 1. When I took the HS's off they had been painted, 2. The screws were different.

Long Answer: For the 1st 10 years this Vette was my daily driver, next 10 it was used occasionally. When anything needed repair it went to a local shop with no thought to keep it original. In 2009 I joined a Vette Club and was urged to join NCRS, got the JG, found many non original replacement parts. Since joining NCRS in 2009, this 1 and only owner Vette has taken 1 Chapter, 3 Regional Top flight awards, I Bloomington Silver and 1 PV. Now I'm trying for a >97% Regional / National raw score.

Sorry my original post didn't have photos attached. I'm addicting them now ( I hope).

I have no doubt that the now pictured shields are the originals. As far as the screws go, I can't see them well enough to say.

Is the top shield the Drivers side?

It is not unusual for fasteners to have different head markings, especially if they are installed on different sides of the car. There was a supply of fasteners on each side of the assembly line and often a worker for each side. So there can be differences side to side as the supply of parts/fasteners is replenished on each side.

The screws seem to be very different lengths. I would not have expected that difference, but someone more involved in mid-years should offer their opinion. Mine don't count on that point.

The screws are different lengths - 2 short / 2 longer. That was something I questioned but could not find a way to validate. The assembly manual shows only 1 part number for the screw but I can't tell which one is correct.

I know I'm making too much of this.

                            Ron,
If the pipes are not original then somebody was involved. The screw heads s/b hex. if not chances are replacements. Configuration of shields looks typical. In fact the condition looks very good. Originals I've been involved with had hex thread cutting screws that appear longer than necessary. Guess to make starting screw and catching straps easier. Looks like your screws have different hex size too. I think the originals were between the two you have for length. Hex size I also think was 5/16". The common 1/4" hex of today was not as common back when GM was building these cars in a thread cutting type. All though they did use them (1/4" hex) as in the wiper motor washer.
