Early 72 small block (Oct) has similar mounting provisions. Pics aren't that great, but I can see them.

What Kevin's picture shows is indentations for the rivets for the second nut plate, but no nut plate installed. The SERVICE hoods I referred to above have two nut plates installed, so they become a "one size fits-almost-all" piece.

To clarify, the small block hood I referred to has the indents, no nut plate.

I have a service replacement hood with both plates as well in my parts collection, so I know what you mean. I could post that if people really want to see it.

What are you trying to do, compete with Joe Lucia? No way you can do that unless you inherit his collection.

Given that the PRODUCTION hoods, including those for earlier 72's like yours, have the indents for the rivets, it's apparent that the intention, at least, for the dual mounts was "dialed in" from the get-go for the GM #3996855 and GM #3996864 hoods. So, rather than the specifications being changed later to include the second mount, it may be that the original drawings and specifications for those hoods included the dual mounts with some sort of instruction that one was to be deleted for hoods destined for PRODUCTION.

It will still be interesting to find out if any 1972 PRODUCTION hoods included both mounts.

                  Re: 1969 - 1972 LT1 and Big Block Hood

Kevin, would it be possible to get a measurement from the hinge to the hood support mounting? (measuring between the bolts)
I've attached your original picture showing what I'm looking for.

Also, on my 69 L36, the measurement is (approx.) 15". Is that the same on your 71?

                  Thanks

                    Hi Ed,

To begin, yes the measurement, center to center, on my 71 is approximately 15" I'd say closer to 15 1/4". Kind an odd and somewhat difficult way to measure, but to repeat the answer, yes. I shot a photo for your use, however I'm now using a brand new laptop that hasn't quite finished the entire set up...If you really need the picture we will have to wait a bit.

Next, I just knew leaving the incorrectly posted photos might lead to some confusion...To be clear, the example you have used is the 72 hood. On this hood support to hinge the measurement is much less, in the neighborhood of 10 1/2" and approximately.

I hope this post is of help to you.

That's exactly what I was looking for Kevin. Thank you very much.

And yes, after reading the entire thread I realized the picture you originally posted was of your 72, but I was just using it as a guide to show you where to measure.

And from this, I've created the attached picture. Do you agree with the measurements (and the "Note")?
