Notice - State Drivers License - Real ID Compliance could impact Boarding an Airplane

FYI - Your State's Driver's license may not let you easily get on a flight after January 10, 2016.

The "Real ID" law says State's must have compliant Driver's licenses to be recognized by the TSA as a valid ID.

Link to map with the Real ID status. Hover your mouse point on a State and read the message that's shown for a State's status.
The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005 to establish minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards.

I think that the terrorist have won. Almost everything we do now we get checked or aren't allowed to bring with us to any event/travel. SAD

I won't use the word "Never" as that word is often wrong, but I will say that no US citizen flying nationally will require a passport this year .

Last I read , over 1/2 the states are non compliant. Some have been granted extensions until Oct. 2016 . Five or six states are refusing to comply, and some of those asking for extensions are just politely refusing .

That Law , now 10 years old , is a giant mess , and it won't get solved or acted upon , anytime soon .

and yet the terrorists keep killing while we lose our freedoms.

??? How do they expect to enter the foreign country?

BTW- what's any of this got to do with Corvettes and technical questions?

My sister-in-law recently moved from Missouri to New Mexico, two states with the January 10 deadline. She travels on business nationally and is getting a passport for TSA id purposes. Better to work the problem early than discover at the last minute you can't board an aircraft.

                      Mike,

I believe Gary posted this information a preemptive measure to assist registered NCRS members, that are flying to the NCRS Judging retreat in Dallas. Technical enough?

The most obvious sticker is if your Driver's Permit uses a middle initial and your other ID's spell out your full middle name. This occurs both ways as some airlines want your full middle name when you book or your passport, which does spell out your middle name, conflicts with your Driver's Permit. We ran into this over a year ago and have just used our passports ever since. My wife's middle name has 11 letters and is too long to fit on her Driver's Permit.

How about that TSA Pre Check? What a farce! I paid big bucks to get it, but my wife got her's free with her frequent trips with a wheel chair. Now, only a few Airlines use it, and if it's not printed on your boarding pass by the airline, you're out of luck. You go through the long line anyway. Now there are some private companies doing something similar; You go in the long line, then they let you by pass all the slobs right to the luggage check point. It cost pretty much too - forget their name.

I checked the DHS website about this recently. According to their website, no changes will be made in January and they have committed to issuing a 120 day notice before the changes will take place. They have not issued a notice yet.

We have TSA Precheck also. Not sure why supplying a middle name or paying $70 makes you less of a risk but not much the government dose do. No one can stop the crazies no mater what government dose it's just to make us feel better like gun control.
