    67 L79 Original Valve Cover or reproduction ?

    I have attached a photo of the area in question.
    Does anyone know if these are reproduction valve covers?
    Thanks...member 23277

    PR = Paragon Reproductions.

    That should answer your question.

      Hi Patrick

      Thank you !

      You confirmed my suspicions that they are reproes.

        It's my understanding that the Paragon reproductions are made from the refurbished original tooling. In that regard, they may well be closer to the original assembly-line valve covers than the last NOS valve covers available from GM. The tooling was getting pretty rough by that time.

          This is true. And, Paragon sells a couple of different qualities of cover, IIRC. Some have the seam, some do not.

            Thanks for all the input !

            I actually have my original L79 valve covers that came on the car (owned since 1973). But I over torqued one of the little bolts (in the late 70's or early 80's) and cracked the aluminum. A subsequent attempted repair made the valve cover worse.

            I then bought an over-the-counter set from Chevy, but these have the "0" half-filled in.....and not really 100% 67 original in appearance. As the casting flaw had worsened. These are on the car today.

            If I can remove 1/2 the aluminum from the filled in "O" I'd have a nice pair......but they will probably look altered, if not done perfectly.

            (1) Photo attached is the over-counter replacement.

            This is why I'm looking for a correct set.
