1972 Lower Dash Air Vents

Does any body out there service or repair the C-3 lower dash air vents? Mine operate OK but the passenger side rubber seal on the outer lip of the damper is toast. My right and left units are different in appearance. The left (driver) side appears to have had the damper factory installed were as the right (passenger) side appears as though it is an after market damper. Can this be serviced or am I going to have search bone yards and get a complete unit and hope the rubber is usable?
Also I am looking for the bezel for the operating shaft where it comes through the dash panel. There must have been one as the indentation around the shaft hole shows evidence of a bezel having been there.

Hi Rey,
I don't know a source for the damper seal. Dr. R, often the source for soft parts like that doesn't show anything.
At least through the 71 model year (and I believe for 72 too) there wasn't any sort of bezel on the hole for the stem that operates the vent.
Just a neatly done round hole in the vinyl and glue to the pad's substrate.

Hi Rey,

If you are talking about the metal dampers on each side, as Alan suggests, Dr. Rebuild does carry the kit and I believe the kit comes complete with the correct tubular rivets. You will need to drill out the rivets to properly install the rubber. I used the Dr. Rebuild kit and was very pleased. It was a fun job. If memory serves me the pins are spring loaded and will need to be compressed to extract the door assembly.

Alan is correct that the 1972s also had no bezel, but the pull knobs were black not chrome as 1970-71.

Hello Bill --- I was referring to the dampers inside the Astro-Vent outlets in each of the lower corners of the dash panels. But also thanks for the info for the air diverter dampers. I have check them out and they divert air flow from outside air into the cabin to the AC unit.

Looking at the pics you posted in response to my speedo post they have raised some ?'s. The trip odometer cable, does it attach straight in to the speedo housing or is there some sort of a 90' deg. fitting on the end??? On the lower back of the speedo is a triangular shape bracket held to the Speedo with to hex head screws. Mine has a third hole that on yours appears to have a rivet inserted. What is the rivet used for other than plugging the hole?
