While we have collectively slept, some parts for our cars have been consumed by aliens or experienced spontanoeus mechanical combustion, reverting back to elemental form.My search for the 10 press in studs found on the rear axle hosuing has led to a quest equal to the search for treasure on Oak Island. millions of cars from 1949 to 1964 each had 10 studs holding in the center carrier. You'd think some gentic material from these dinosaurs would be found. Surely there is a wharehouse in the hinterlands where crates of these studs collect dust. Rear gear specialists exist in a world that began long after 1964 and seem to not comprehend rear gears were ever held to axle hosuings by 3/8 x 24 nuts on studs.I'm guessing the proper stud length has been retired as a badge of honor like the numeber on the jersey of a legendary ball player. Oh, I came close! Within a quarter inch actually. the internet, vendors, hardware manufacturers, lawn mower and trailer obsolete part houses are all sorry they can't help as they convey a sense of pity in their response and a clear desire keep their disatnce. What common parts have you searched for, never to be found?Could these studs be the next holy grail part to command inflated prices like early vette hardtops, original gas caps, 5.5 wide wheels and 57 tail lights?I feel better now.

There were actually 2 different studs used over the C1 period. 1953 to about 1961 used GM #3707320. About 1961 thru 1962 used GM #3786363 which also became SERVICE for earlier. How the 2 differed I don't know. Both are 3/8-24 X 1-25/64". The 3786363 was discontinued in June, 1973 and replaced by GM #3735727. This stud was used in PRODUCTION for earlier non-Corvette applications and is slightly shorter than the 2 aforementioned studs at 1-3/16" length. It was discontinued without supersession in December, 1974.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
