    1967 Horn wiring and troubleshooting

My horns have stopped working after rebuilding the steering column and replacing the turn signal switch.

The horns work when the green wire is removed from the relay and 12vdc is applied to it.
The horn contact ring does ground out.
I do not have continuity from horn contact ring to horn relay terminal

Does the horn contact need to ground through the column and through the rag joint to work? I did not disturb the rag jpoint, only removed. Should there be continuity through the rag joint?

Could it be the horn contact brush behind the cancelling cam? How to check that?

Run a jumper ground wire from the frame to the rag joint or the end of the column and see if it works

      Don -

Yes, there MUST be continuity through the rag joint, or pushing the horn button won't trigger the relay. Put a jumper wire between the upper half and lower half of the rag joint and see if the horns work.

Right now I show continuity to the steering box input shaft from the column. So the rag is OK. I'm guessing my initial readins were off due to surface corrosion, once down to bare metal, good continuity.
        BUT
the cancelling cam spring loaded contact is very erratic so still no horns.....yet.

          Don,
You may have oxidation on the spring loaded plunger or the ring. Try some scotch brite on each. I assume the wire to the ring is making good connection.

The horn is once again operational.
It was the spring in the push button in the cancelling cam. After receiving the brush contact repair kit, and dis-assembly of the cancelling cam, I found the spring broken. I used a scotch bright pad on both sides of the brass contact ring, removed and cleaned the push button and using the kits new spring. Reassembly and TA DA! Continuity between push button and brass contact ring.
