67 window crank knobs

There is a 2007 thread titled "How to fix those wobbly window cranks"....... It contains info on removing the COVER
of a knob by boiling the assembly & thereby being able to change knob colors . I'm unclear on how to do this as I don't see a cover on the OEM knobs. What am I missing? I see Joe L. was also on this thread with good info. Anyone reproducing an exact handle and/or white knob these days?
I also remember a Restorer article on replacing these knobs, and, can't find it...
Seems to very hard to find NOS in these specific cranks.
