    can someone decode this tire?

As I have said in earlier posts, I am going over my car , guide book in hand.
Some things on a 75 are not discussed in the same depth as some more popular years. I pulled out my spare to see if maybe it was original to the car.
The wheel markings are correct, but the only thing I can read off the tire is 225, which is the date. 22nd week of 1975.
This is a J08 dared car , so that jives. What about everything else. The tire still has the lines, full tread and the mold nipples.
    Can anyone decipher the rest?

      Ross,

Google the tire manufacturer for the info.

DOT 1966? law mandated tire manufacturers to include a manufacturing date on tires. The first couple of years the coding was proprietary. About 1970 DOT mandated the last 3 digits as; first 2 digits = week of the year and the last digit = year.

Your tire is 22nd week of 5, which could be 1975, 1985 or 1995. In 2000 DOT mandated the last 4 digits; first 2 digits = week, last two digits = year.

FPE could be the plant and shift or? Google should be able to help find that info.

Re: can someone decode this tire?

        Ross,
The first letter of the code indicates the manufacturer 'M' is Goodyear. The second letter is for the plant location 'K' is for the Goodyear Plant in Union City Tennessee. U5 is the tire size - GR 70-15. FPE is the type of construction. Most likely 225 is the 22nd week of 75 for your car.
        Hope this helps.
        regards,
        Jimmy

Re: can someone decode this tire?

          Thanks guys,
so, with that date and tire info, along with the correct weights and wheel numbers, I can determine that is, if not the original spare, it is entirely correct for my car.
it is a black wall tire. The tank sticker remnant I have makes it hard to tell. But if all five tires all suppose to be the same, should I turn my RWL tires around?

            Ross,

Take a look at the judging reference manual - they don't all have to be the same, and the white on the inside receives a deduction. I have shown mine with 4 original 1972 blackwalls but the original RWL tire still in the spare tire hub. There's nothing wrong, from a judging perspective, with what you have now.

If you were to have your car judged at an NCRS meet the spare tire need not match the road tires if the spare appears to be original. The judges want to see original spare tires. Your road tires may receive a deduction depending how much they differ from OEM, but they should NOT receive a deduction just because they are different style than the spare.

I have the GR70-15 Kelsey RWL tires on it . Can I get any closer to original than those?

Someone else will have to answer your question because I do not know what the OEM tires were supposed to be for your year car. You might want to consult the appropriate TIM&JG (which I do not have) for that information.

Yes indeed. Made by Perfect Equipment Corp, which was one of multiple vendors who supplied wheel weights to GM starting at least as far back as the early 1960s.

Does anyone know which year the metric weight amount was added to wheel weights?

Is this the tire you have? This is as close as there is.

Four original Goodyear steelguards will get no deductions if they have no wear as I use them on my 73's. One point per tire on repos.

My spare is a Goodyear Speedway bias ply. The code on the tire is ANNDLJDX. Any thoughts on what year it is?

                            Justin,
What year is your corvette? The code you list doesn't have any numbers in it, like later year tires have for decoding. Those Goodyear Speedway Tires were used on 68-72 cars and would say "Goodyear Wide Tread F70-15" in block letters. Is there a DOT mark imbedded on the tire? I believe that was required starting around 1-1-69, or a little after that. Goodyear pre DOT codes are available. Is there any other markings with letters in it?

I have a 1970. It is a "wide tread". There is a DOT mark and remnants of a white stamp on the side wall. It's been used but has a lot of tread. Odds are it's the original. Pretty incredible. Thanks Jimmy. Do you know how to decode the letters?
