    67 Turn Signal Switch

I have an original turn signal switch harness from a 67 steering column I recently purchased. The column is in great shape but as you can see in the pic below one of the connectors on the turn signal switch harness is broken. I have purchased a reproduction from LectricLimited but I certainly don't want to trash the original. I have searched to no avail for just the connector. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

The reproduction 67 switches have a bad reputation of sorry Taiwan workmanship. If the original works just use the reproduction to repair the original if possible. It seems to be the plastic parts in the reproduction switches that are defective.

Kelly, use the original switch and wiring. Remove a terminal from the repro and attach it to the original wiring. The repro (at least one I purchased a few years ago) has a different color plug and the wiring colors are different. This stuff sticks out...especially if you are going to get the car judged. If the switch itself is shot, you can "graft" the old wiring harness onto a new switch close to the switch itself so that the "graft" connection is not visible

No need to apologize about Taiwan parts. I have had terrible luck with imported reproduction turn signal cancel for my 63. Stephen who also posted to scavenge parts from the repro switch. Will a continuity test tell me if the switch is good? The steering column and switch currently installed on my 67 is fine. However, it is a telescopic column and according to the tank sticker, the car wasn't shipped from the factory with that configuration.Thank you for your reply.

Stephen, Joe Ray agreed with you on using the repro for parts. You are correct about the wiring colors being different. Not close at all. As I asked Joe, will a continuity test work to determine if the switch is good? If not is there another way to test the switch without actually installing it? Thank you for your reply

A continuity check will tell you if the contacts are good in the various switch positions. If the switch is mounted in a column you'll also be able to test the "cancel" capability as you turn the wheel. Below is a schematic of the switch which was drawn by Gerry Fucillo.

              Re: 67 Turn Signal Switch

Kerry, I just went through a switch change on a '67. I'd have preferred to use the original but the wiring was torn up too much due to it rubbing inside the Tele-sleeve.

I'm thinking the pins are identical to the fuse-panel bulkhead connector pins.....They look like "Twin-Lock" type connector pins.

In your case if all you need is to repair the wire terminals, this may be your better option.

Stephen, Thank you for the schematic. I downloaded it and will study. I'll start with the continuity check then take it from there. Thanks again.

Richard, The pic you provided sure looks the same as the original. I checked out the link you provided and printed out some information. I plan on calling the company tomorrow. Hopefully I can purchase a small lot. Thank you for your help.

Stephen, Wanted to let you know I just got of the phone with "Larry" of Del Mar Wire and ordered the terminals for my switch. Larry told me he is a wholesaler and specializes in GM. The terminals are .69 each and come in a pack of 25. I should receive them this week and if you would like I can follow up and let you know how the terminal works out.

Above are some pics of the turn signal harness repair. Richard's suggestion of Delmar wire was right on the spot. Earlier I posted a pic of the broken connection and pic #2 is the repair connection. Left to right the 3rd pic is a before repair of the harness and cleanup of the mechanism. The 4th is an after shot of the mechanism all cleaned up and ready for installation. If wanted, I'm more than happy to upload additional pics.

As you can see one of wires separated from the harness. There were other areas further down the harness that separated as well. To solve this, I used a toothpick as an applicator to ever so lightly apply a small bead of super glue an inch at a time. I tested the super glue on the sheathing on a piece of scrap wire to make sure the glue didn't compromise the sheathing in anyway. It didn't, so I was good to go. I suggest testing supper glue before you use it on any sort of repair.
