Windshield Weather Strip Part # Question

I will soon be installing an original windshield in my '96 convertible. I see a NOS weather strip available that is part #17980727. The GM parts catalog I have lists this part as #10268887. Was there a part number change for this weather strip? Are these part numbers interchangeable?

    Thanx

According to one of my parts book 10268887 is a replacement number for 17980727. Also here is a link to Corvette Central that shows all the part numbers that item has had over time.

Thank you Ken. Since you seem to have more complete information than I do...
The parts manual I have also shows part # 10236368 but isn't very clear as to where this is installed. It is described as: SEAL W/S (Black). It appears to be a seal along the bottom edge of the windshield. Do you have any other information or part numbers for this?

Part number 10268887 and 17980727 refer to the seal that goes up the A-post across the top of the windshield frame and down the other A-post. (see link in my first reply) The Part 10236368 is the inner w/s seal that goes across the bottom of the w/s between the glass and the dash and I believe it's basically 1" foam.

You said in your first post that you are going to install the windshield. Are you looking for the rubber seal that goes between the front windshield and the windshield frame?

Ok 10236368 is the rubber seal that goes between the glass and the frame. GM show it as a discontinue part number. So if you are putting in a new front windshield (glass) then this is the seal you are looking for.

Yes. I need that also. I have been told that replacing the windshield w/o destroying these weather strips and seals is virtually impossible and they all get replaced as part of the job. My understanding is that the windshield is set and "sealed" to the frame with this stuff:

Ok I take this one back (getting my numbers mixed). 10236368 is the foam like seal on the inside between the window and dash from what I can see. As for setting the glass in the frame, what you show is correct. There is trim that cover the edge of the glass. Got confused with my other car that has a full rubber seal between the glass and the frame.

The funny thing I can't find any information (DYI, videos) on the web with regard to replacing the front windshield on a C4. Good luck.

Re: Windshield Weather Strip Part # Question

Thanx Ken. I think I'm going to take it to a local auto glass shop that specializes in work on "classic" cars. I want to supply all the parts myself so that everything appears as original. It took me over 5 years to find an original date-correct windshield removed from a '96 convertible. I also managed to obtain many of the other parts from dealer stock (GM Parts Direct) when they were still available about 5 years ago. However, the weather strip I have is an aftermarket piece I found at a swap meet so I'm considering upgrading to a genuine GM NOS piece.

Good idea taking it a place that specializes in that kind of stuff. I do most of my own work but that would be something I would want some who know what they are doing. As for NOS stuff you can try some of the folks I've listed below. I gotten some stuff for my 90 recently but as the one place told me their inventor is getting smaller. I've have done business with Neil Hadsall, great guy. Anyways good luck on getting your windshield in.

Thanx for the contact info. I did find the lower foam seal (#10236368) I purchased about 5 years ago. It's just a 60" length of 1-1/4" x 3/4" foam I could have bought at home depot for $2.
