    Re: Doc Rebuild

I come down strongly on the positive side with the Doc as well. Always got the right parts and the quality unmatched. My favorite are his 63 only L-76 carburetor base gaskets. No one else has the right ones which if incorrect will have a vacuum leak.

He was always very nice to me when I purchased items from him at Carlisle; however, I was mindful of his cantankerous reputation. I believe he hate to talk on the phone. lol.

        Re: Doc Rebuild

If memory serves, there are two keys for having a relatively 'pleasant' encounter with Doc. 1) Don't call the 800 line if you have any questions and 2) Have the part numbers ready.
I've always had good luck with his parts and with my calls to him but, I prepare for about a week:-))
To those that have had a bad experience, it ain't your fault. He can be a gruff ol' fart.

          Hi Mark,
He doesn't have the 800# anymore he cancelled it. He prefers email. That's how I've always ordered from him with no problems.

              Re: Doc Rebuild

Another Doc thread that probably needs to be closed by the moderators but...

I had a very public run-in with Geoff that spilled over to this board which I regret. Geoff and I patched things up and I continue to buy parts from Dr. Rebuild. I come from a family that ran a small business of sorts (a Dr.'s practice) so I can see it from Doc's point of view. Let's face it, there are some people in this hobby that expect a man to fuss around sending parts back and forth because they don't meet some superficial standard until he was wasted 8 hours trying to earn the sale of a $5 part. That's not a fair expectation. The business isn't a game to him and his wife - it's how they put food on the table. I can imagine how he got fed up with the NCRS. That doesn't mean I always agree with his approach but I can certainly understand why he feels that way. You can't fault the man for being honest and straightforward about how he wants to do business.

I just bought parts from Dr. Rebuild and there was small part missing from the order. I simply sent him an email and he emailed me back several times throughout the day to keep me updated and finally determined the mistake was made because the NOS part I ordered was out of stock. I won't tell you exactly how much he refunded because that's private business between me and him but I can tell you he was more than equitable. I actually feel I should do business with him simply to keep his website online. I have used the parts information and drawings on that site for research on many occasions.

All-in-all Dr. Rebuild is a good place to get quality parts. You just need to see it from his point of view and set your expectations accordingly.

There have been similar threads on this vendor and they eventually fall off the rails so let's lock this one up.
