Battery on a 1966 AC DELCO org or aftermarket AC DELCO points differance

I have a friend whos putting his 1966 Vette in next month for flight judging (for the first time)

1/ Locate the correct battery, have date coded as per NCRS manual and ship to the UK (High cost and they dont like shipping batterys)
or
2/ Purchase an AC DELCO battery in the UK incorrect configuration

Question
25 points originality - what kind of hit will he take
15 points condition - what hit

It says in the section page 139 section 15 at the bottom - judging guidance, consult the current judging ref manual for standard deductions regarding batterys (I dont have that info )

Any help as always appreciated -

It's a 12 point hit. ( 50 percent ), if you use a current day Delco battery. If you use anything other than Delco it's all 25 points ( 100 percent ).

It's a Standard Deduction.

The new soft tar-top battery that is correctly dated and marked for the car has got to be around $500+ to ship to the UK. Is 12 points worth that much. !2 points is not enough to stop a top-flight unless there are many more problems.

I've seen some judges still take the 50% on the new soft tar-top and I have no idea why. There should be a zero deduct on it.

Harry has good advice, and Harry, IMO the reason some still deduct for those perfect restoration tar tops is that either they are not reading the judging manual correctly, or they some how hoodwink the unsuspecting owner to allow them to touch or remove the caps to take a look.
