    C4 Question

'96 has been in storage with battery disconnect switch. Went to connect battery today, and both headlight motors started turning, then quit when they went thru their cycle. Closed hood, started car, turned headlights on and everything worked fine. Any ideas what is causing this? First time this has happened in over 5 years the car has been in storage. BTW, i do drive it every 3-4 weeks to keep things up and running!!

I have a 95 (ZR-1). I've been told that with C4 and later cars that you should NOT attach a battery cutoff switch. If you do, the car loses all prior settings that have to be re-initialized in the car's computer - a process that takes about 20 minutes. Use a trickle charger instead to keep the battery from losing its charge. I'm just guessing here, but it may be the computer reset process that is moving your headlights.

I would install the battery disconnect for bonus points if your having you car judged. But Mark is correct to use a trickle charge because at some point the computer may not reset. This is what I do on 1996 CE.

Get a battery maintainer. Throw out that cut out. These C4 use voltage to maintain your inputs. Most new batteries today come from one source and need juice to maintain 12.25 to 12.50 voltage.

Unfortunately there is no power in the storage unit. Car has been there over 3 years with cutoff installed with no issues until now!

I don;t know the name of the device, but I have one that fits into the lighter socket.
Right before Judging I inserted this device and it copied all the settings. I then disconnected the battery for Judging.
When all the Judging was done, I reconnected the battery and started up the Corvette. The settings were put back into the system automatically.
Sorry I don't know the name of the device as I am away from my Corvette for a couple of months a year in Florida.
I do utilize a battery tender when I am away and it is great. The Corvette goes into storage in November and starts right up in March with no problems.

I would buy a American made 9 volt battery and a device we use to swap over a new battery to maintain computer inputs. If you have any phantom voltages you will drain the 9 volt battery down quickly. Then you will have to find what device is draining the battery Also the batterys today are such poor quality that three years is all I see there duty cycle lasting.
