    '68 001 paint code?

Anyone ever seen something like this? Posting for a friend who has this one his '68, and is trying to find out what the heck it means. Doesn't appear to have been tampered with, best I can tell. I'll get some more info on the car and post later.

    Hello Joel,
The trim code is 436 Tabacco Leather.
Date code ? B-18 or D-18 (hard to read in the photo)
001 ? color override for paint
Tobacco is listed for only two paint colors Tuxedo Black and Polar White.
This is listed in the 1968 - 1972 specification guide.
Check under the door sill carpet to find paint color information to get more clues.
    Regards,
    Drew Papsun

      Thanks Drew.
I've asked for info on the date code...I couldn't see it very well either. '68 convertible, 427. Right now, it's green w/black interior. It's does appear to have been white at one point. I'll dig deeper and get more info and post this evening.

Overide can mean a non recommended color combination.

Bronze was also a paint color option with the 436 interior color. Still trying to determine if the 001 is in fact a paint over-ride code, or something else, and if it is possible to determine what color it would represent. Perhaps this was a special order car for someone with some "pull" at GM at the time? Or was 001 the standard color variation code? Anyone have an idea?

I have never seen 001 as a paint override code but I have seen SPEC for a paint override color. That is odd.

Non recommended color combos I have seen usually still have the correct codes on the tag if they are the colors offered. For example a 976 blue exterior with a 407 red interior. It will show those codes on the tag but might have a notation on the tank sticker such as a COPO number or even something written in. Is there a tank sticker on the tank? It could help answer some questions.

I did the same thing and found that at one time Proteam had a 68 with the 001 code. They stated in there ad that it was the ONE car that came that way but it would seem there are at least 3 cars that have these 001 tags according to what showed up on google.
