Hello, my 69 non ac heater distribution box has 2 vacuum actuators.... On on top of the box which I think diverts air through the heater core, and another larger one which I think works the defrost. Does anyone know part numbers for these? Can't find them in the AIM. Thanks

Believe it or not, this is a tough question. The actuator part numbers are not shown in the AIM because, I believe, they were supplied to PRODUCTION as part of the heater box assembly. Information on these actuators is somewhat sketchy in the P&A catalogs.
However, I believe one of the actuators was GM #1998955. This actuator is long-since GM-discontinued and quite difficult to find in NOS condition.
The other actuator MAY have been originally GM #1996603 and, later, GM #1996686. The latter is still available from GM or Delco. The "sketchy" part of this is that GM says this actuator was used for Corvettes equipped with A/C. However, they never cataloged another actuator for non A/C models. So, was it the same for both? I don't know, for sure.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1969 heater box vacuum actuator
Roger------
Very helpful information!
The large actuator was originally GM #1998963 (that's what the "963" denotes on the lever). It was discontinued in April, 1971 and replaced by GM #1998955. The latter was discontinued quite some time ago. However, Old Air Products offers a functional replacement for this actuator.
The smaller actuator is obviously GM #1998962 as stamped on the lever. This actuator was discontinued in December, 1971 and replaced by GM #1998948 which is also long-since GM-discontinued.
Are you sure that you need either actuator? These actuators are very easy to test. Simply apply a vacuum source to the nipple on the actuator and observe if the lever moves. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1969 heater box vacuum actuator
Hello Joe. The small one is good, but the big one is bad on one side. I sourced a Delco 1998999 that looks just like it, but the actuators are at right angles. Original is on right

These look like they are pinned on, so I may be able to jury rig the old connector on the the new one

The box is such a PITA to take apart, with all the rivets that need to come out, that I thought it would be a good idea to replace them now, along with all the seals. I don't want to do this again. Old Air is in FW, so I may give them a call.- Top
