Re: C 1 Rear Shocks
I checked, but too rich for my blood. Sorry, Dan. I drive my car; so what would be best barring NOS, the Delco gas shocks sold by most of the vendors? Paint them with a different black from how they come? Don't want anything "hot roddy"- no Bilsteins, etc, just for stock suspension . My shocks appear original. Just asking, how have rebuilt original shocks worked out functionally for any who have gone that route?- Top

Re: C 1 Rear Shocks
May get it judges but not going to pay $$$$$ for NOS shocks. With that being said and with a good ride important when I drive this car, what do you recommend, the new Delco gas shocks? Need to paint them- they come black?- Top

Re: C 1 Rear Shocks
William-------
The last available GM shocks for your application were GM #22064272, front, and GM #22064271, rear. The front shocks are GM-discontinued but might still be available through Delco dealers. I show the rear shocks are still available from GM or Delco but that could change at any time or may even already have been dropped. However, I don't think that these shock were actually of Delco manufacture. Delco ceased manufacturing shocks a long time ago. More likely, these are Monroe or Gabriel shocks in GM boxes. But, I would not rule out the possibility they were Delco-manufactured and have just remained in inventory for a long time. After all, I don't expect the market for these is too great (even though they do have other "old-time" applications).
If I were you, I'd obtain the following shocks:
Monroe 5751---front
Monroe 5818---rear
These are OEM quality shocks and they are painted black. If there are any labels on them, simply remove them. Yes, these shocks will differ from the originals in minor ways but they'll be substantially the same in configuration. About 30 bucks each. Just right for a driven car, even if it's judged at some point. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C 1 Rear Shocks
Thanks, Joe. Do they come with mounting hardware? Guess it depends on my hardware as to whether I need to buy new hardware from one of the vendors. Do you or anyone else know who manufactures the replacement shocks or their quality available from the various vendors?- Top

The Monroe shocks I mentioned are supplied with complete mounting hardware. Of course, like the shocks, this hardware might not be 100% "correct". However, it should be 100% functional.
I know of no reproduction shocks for C1's although it's possible they exist. The Delco replacement shocks available from Corvette vendors are, I believe, manufactured by either Monroe or Gabriel but it's possible they are old stock as once manufactured by Delco. As I also mentioned, the fronts are discontinued but there may be some around. The rears show as being still available but, assuming they are, I would not expect that to continue for much longer. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
