    c-2 dash cluster U-nuts

don't attempt to use the repo u-nuts from most all of the aftermarket suppliers. the original u-nuts (5 for the dash cluster and 6 for the glove box frame) are small enough to allow the cluster to be mounted to the dash pad assembly , whereas the repos are too large to allow the cluster to be mounted to the dash pad assembly . originals, part #3831934 in the 63 AIM, measure approx .44" from the center of the nut to where the u-nut seats in the dash's fiberglass tab. the repos measure .62". When installing the repos, one is narrowing the distance between the u-nuts at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock by two times the difference of .62 minus .44 or .36". believe me, that .36" just won't allow the dash cluster to seat on the dash pad assemble.
i spent this morning running around town looking for substitute u-nuts that would work, to no avail.
i then went thru my old used nuts, bolts etc and found some old original u-nuts that the assembly line used to mount the 63-64 grills to the body. these look like the original 3831934 u-nuts and they work just fine to install the cluster on the 63 i'm re-assembling after a frame off.
btw, the repo u-nuts will work when installing the grill, BUT, the edge of the repo u-nuts differs from the appearance of the original u-nuts and i suspect astute judges may pick up on the morphology difference and deduct accordingly. mike

    Mike,

Do the originals you found have what looks like a M marking on them.
