    Undercoating On A '62

We are working on this '62 and were cleaning up the body yesterday. It has undercoating on the bottom and up in the inner fender wells. Was that a factory applied coating?
From the trace amount of paint remaining it looks as if this car was red, then silver, then black and then white. It grease pin color marking behind the pass seat is gone.

I don't think it is from the factory, when I worked at a Chevy store in the 60's I can remember having to take a couple Corvettes down to a shop to have them undercoated cause the owners thought it deadened the road noise.

Yeah, I think you are prob correct. Some of it was up in the engine bay. We were able to get that off. Tks.

Wasn't there some up in the wheel well to coat the inner part of the top of the fender to prevent rock chips in the fiberglass?

I seem to remember hearing that too. That the undercoat in the fender wells was to prevent a rock from starring the paint on a hard hit from the underside.

The 62 had undercoat in the wheel wells. The front had it in a area about 6 to 8 inches wide above the tire area and covered the headlight bucket and down across the splash guards. The rear had the same with over the top of the tire area. The amount was light and a fine orange-peel finish.
When I judge these C1 cars that is what I expect to be there.

              Thanks Joe,
I am surprised that it was that narrow but I guess it matches the width of the tire tread.
