I'm installing the rear Diff onto the frame . The front bracket is secured by two rubber bushings .the smaller bushing fits down from the top with a steel tube going through the frame hole. My question is on the large bushing that is sandwiched between the Diff bracket and the frame one image.jpg ide is steel and the other side is rubber. Is the steel side facing up so the small bushing steel tube goes through it. A lot of yapping but I want to make sure before I torque everything down. Thank you Jeff.

Re: Differential front carrier support bracket install
Jeff,
My recollection is that the steel side faces down so it will be in contact with the diff bracket. The other end (rubber) should fit around the metal tube that's part of the upper bushing to make a sandwich then the diff mount and another large flat washer, lock washer and nut.- Top

Re: Differential front carrier support bracket install
It's difficult to be sure, but the assembly manual (page UPC 4 - B3) shows what looks like a ring of metal on the bottom side of that part, just above the bracket. BY THE WAY, THE TORQUE SPEC. SEEM OVERLY HIGH ON THIS PAGE. 55-75 FOOT-LBS. FOR BOLT NUMBER 5 SEEMS HIGH.https://MichiganNCRS.org

The installation orientation is as Timothy describes.
The torque spec is correct. This is a 7/16-14 bolt. 55-75 ft/lbs is fine for this bolt. In addition, this is not a "solid", metal-to-metal interface. As you tighten the bolt you will be compressing the two cushions and you will compress them until the specified torque is achieved. There will be quite a bit of exposed threads below the nut when the specified torque is achieved. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Differential front carrier support bracket install
Just make sure the holes in the bracket a perfectly round, if not replace the bracket. Otherwise you will get lot's of noise when you change from forward to reverse and visa versa.
