I want to have my 62 Fuelie judged in about 6 mos. I cannot find correct shock absorbers and have a cracked RH 902 exhaust manifold. Tried to fix the manifold and it is now worse than when I started. Would replace them but cannot find the correct parts. What is my best solution?

Re: Judging standards for Non-original and Repaired parts
Your best solution is to learn the judging rules and standards to understand what's a huge showstopper vs. no big deal. The system is the farthest possible from an 'all or nothing' approach.
Neither of the two items you've mentioned would make a significant difference in scoring.- Top

Re: Judging standards for Non-original and Repaired parts
I've had a similar problem with an exhaust manifold.
Even if you end up buying the reproduction manifold and shocks from Paragon, the points loss is minimal. You can still keep looking for an original while using the reproductions, and swap if you happen to find them.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: Judging standards for Non-original and Repaired parts
That is the direction I have been heading - buying reproductions and replacing if I find something usable. My car is all original except for some consumables along the way. Car has one repaint in 1983.

Re: Judging standards for Non-original and Repaired parts
Don,
Try attending a local judging event maybe even volunteer as an Observer Judge before you have your car judged. Local chapter events are a good place to learn. Then when the time arrives to have your car judged you have a much better idea of how to prepare your car and how the process works.- Top

Re: Judging standards for Non-original and Repaired parts
Send the exhaust manifold to Jerry McNeish at www.Z28camaroman@juno.com. He can repair it. I have an exhaust manifold there now that is being repair. Not cheap but at least you have your orginal.- Top

Re: Judging standards for Non-original and Repaired parts
Don, a 902 exhaust manifold for a fuelie is a very expensive part. If I remember correctly, the fuelie version of the 902 manifold does not have a hole drilled for the choke tube. This makes this version rare and expensive. Therefore, it is unlikely you will find a replacement at an affordable price and it's worth your while to have your old one repaired.- Top
