    71 Rear Storage Compartment

2 questions related to the rear storage compartment. First one is there are 6 rivets that attache the compartment frame to the body, I think these were pop divest installed from the inside of storage compartment into body. Is this correct or??

The other question is, how is the centre storage compartment held to the frame. There are some small holes drilled in the inside of the plastic frame but it does,t look like they had been used.

    Any help appreciated

    sheldon,

    1. there are three hinge pieces - one for each compartment door.
    2. each of these hinges are riveted to the plastic storage compartment frame. the rivets are not pop style. they are small aluminum ones that
have to get peened over. just like the ones used on other body areas.
    3. there is a metal strip on the outside of the body that is aluminum riveted to the back of the fiberglass storage tub area.
it is what the sheet metal screws that hold the frame in are attached to.

...... some of those pre-drilled holes in the plastic frame are for the hinge attachment rivets and some are where the sheet metal screws go.
put each hinge up to the plastic frame and note which are which...
also - be really sure you have the hinges oriented correctly etc... it is easy to make a mistake during the hinge attachment process....

    hope this helps some.

      Bill,
Yes I see the larger rivets for the Hinges which is what the AIM shows and it also calls for a Rivet for the back side that goes into the body and I was pretty sure I had to drill rivets to get it out but maybe I am mistaken. Then there are the screws that hold the side and front to clips on the body. I thought i took lots of pictures of stuff when I disassembled the car but not even close. Will do my next car a lot different.

The plastic frame will come out without taking rivets out. It is held in by 6-8 phillips screws. To remove the hinges from each door area, you would have drilled rivets.

if you drilled rivets in the body, then it was to remove the metal back strap outside the car.

          Hi Sheldon,
On my car the glove box liner is held in place by 2 small barbed spring clips. One on each of the long sides.
The clip pushes up into the plastic compartment frame.
I don't think the clips are shown on the sheet I'd expect them to be…. UPC1asm, Sheet E8.
          Regards,
          Alan
