1988 Hood Underside Paint

On both sides of my hood the areas to the outside of the plastic inner wheel housings are painted gloss black - but nothing else is gloss. The TIM&JG states "will be painted semi-gloss black". Someone went to the trouble to paint this one area gloss. Is the TIM&JG correct? If so, I'm going to remove the housings and paint the area semi-gloss.

What if they just have cleaned and rubbed them so often that this is the result?

This paint from Walmart is a perfect match.I was able to do touch up on my 90 without repainting the whole hood and its only about buck a can. Had no issue during this last summer running in 90 degree heat.

I worked in the Paint department at Bowling Green. The black-out painter sprayed semi-gloss black only. They had different painters all the time doing this job. Runs were typical.

Thanks for the info. I'll prep it and use SEM on it. I like SEM since it's durable and seems to be consistent from can to can.

I will give the Walmart paint a try on a project that's not going to be NCRS.

I sprayed it out with two passes of SEM - I did find ridge marks which would indicate that someone masked off the area and then painted it. Looks pretty good. Any thoughts on lost points at judging with the way it looks now (buckets are off).88-corvette-hood-underside-after-touchup.jpg
