    1970 stamp pad double stamp

Looking at my next potential project. The car is a1970 LS5 that has not been on the road since 1980. Looking at my photos of the stamp pad the last three digits are double stamped. Has anyone seen this before and how would this be a negative when being flight judged?

    Thanks,

    John

Completely legit. I have absolutely no doubt this is an original stamping.

Agree with Joe. In answer to your questions, yes they have been seen before, and yes it could be a negative when being flight judged. It depends on the judge. "Double stamps" are "not typical for production:.

Totally legit and original. Partial double stamps from the gang stamp bouncing and making a second contact with the pad are more common on the engine plant stamping than on the VIN, but any judge who does not recognize this possibility at the assembly plant should be judging some other part of the car instead.

1967 Coupe. It appears as though the person stamping didn't get a clean hit and the first attempt left parts of the numbers unreadable. A second hit was made and the numbers came out clear. Although it is difficult to see the broach marks in this photo, they are definitely present although subtle.

            Steve,

That guy stamping those pads must of been having a bad month. Look at my stamping...just a few days earlier.

I certainly agree that this pad is not typical, I will also say that its authenticity is not in doubt as well. So how much of a hit would one take under this scenario? This car is a very original C3 LS5, that still has the 1980 inspection sticker on the window, under a lot of dust... With some work it is a perfect top flight candidate!

No deduct. Double/bounce stamps are not rare in the least and are typical of factory production.
