    C-4 Oil filters

I have a customer who claims he has an expensive (his wording) 1988 White oil filter. I have always thought that the '84-'91 used a Black oil filter. I am almost positive he is incorrect. He is having his car judged shortly. I have the first edition of the '84-'87 manual but none later. Thanks very much, John D

    John,
Is it a PF-25.? If so what is the difference between a white 1982 PF-25 and a white 1988 PF-25.?
Like you I always thought PF-25's were black after 1983.

Maybe changed to black to hide oil leaks? (See other thread on engine colors.)

On the 1990 and 91 L98 the original oil filter from the factory was black and the AC Delco replacement filters are blue.

No way. White painted PF-25's ended after about 1972 or 73.

Ken, pretty much hit the nail on the head,80's corvettes and passenger cars, trucks came with a black filter from factory, there may have been a few exceptions.

My new 1985 had the black filter. I saved it for years but haven't seen it recently so I don't know if I still have it.

Actually, just the opposite! I was told by a GM tech that it was done so the fluorescent dye used in the leak detection kits would show up better. Chip.

                  Re: C-4 Oil filters

Thanks everyone. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back. Way behind in my work and my new NCRS job "AINT" easy. hahaha.

My forte is no longer C4's as I lost my May 83 car to the ex wife. IT was my baby and one of two C4's to be used in the first NCRS judging school aka Pittsburgh chapter hosted by Tom Barr, etc.
The fuel filter used in the first C4 judging manual belongs to me. It came from the assembly line and most of you know that story. If your C4 was one day old and you bought a new filter for it you received a blue one.
A pal of mine made the labels for those filters.
Anyhow the white filter in my friend John's photo will not pass judging even if painted black. Notice the bottom for the filter has a flat spot the square of a quarter. You guru's here know that's a SR filter. The proper C4 filter should have a flat area the size of a 50 cent piece of a silver dollar. Course who has seen a silver dollar anymore. haha.
Anyhow as mentioned: The'83 to 91 filter is production gloss black paint. I like to say '83 even though it gives me a pit in my stomach as I will always miss my two tone blue May 83 car. It had ZZZZ suspension and rode like a coal truck but I still loved it. I could get in but could not get out of the damn thing unless I called for help.
Sorry. Not one of my better posts.
