My '64 roadster has developed a loose inside mirror mount. It is the original so probably just old but can't tighten the screw enough to fix it. The car is retired from judging, so any ideas for a good replacement that will be tight, and how much do I need to replace? Thanks for any help.

Re: Inside rear view mirror loose on '64
Michael,
Not familar with the mirror, does the bolt hole go all the way through the two pieces? If so, thread an allen head bolt (chrome) through the two pieces backwards (that is the bolt head will now be on the opposite side that the screw head was). Then use a washer/nut combination (also chrome) to clamp (tighten) the two parts together. No damage to the original part or threads, just a different fastener.

p.s. if there is too large a gap between the stem and mount, a thin soft (brass) washer might help.Judging Chairman Mid-Way USA (Kansas) Chapter- Top

Re: Inside rear view mirror loose on '64
Actually, on closer inspection, it is the ball that fits into the back of the mirror that is loose, not the mount arm assemblies above that. So looks like I just need a new mirror that has a tight ball.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Take the mirror off, place it face down and put a drop or two of blue Loc-tite around the ball. It will seep in around the ball and tighten things up. Over the past 40 years, I've tightened up several loose mirrors with this method.- Top
